Where we are and some information about 'Eua'Eua is the oldest island in The Kingdom of Tonga and one of the oldest in the Pacific, which makes it quite unique. Geologically it is not related to the rest of Tonga, because of its much older age. Plants and trees and the red shining parrot are only found on this island, which proves it is a different island to the rest of Tonga. The Tonga trench is the second deepest in the world at 10.8 km. It is about 400 nautical miles from the east coast of 'Eua. (The deepest trench is the Marianas trench at 12 km; Mount Everest is 8.8 km.) Known as "The Forgotten Island", 'Eua is located approximately 40 km south-east of Tongatapu. The Hideaway is situated on the western coast of 'Eua Island overlooking the ocean, when in breeding season (mid July to November) you can watch Southern Humpback whales from your accommodation. The resort is only a short distance from luscious rainforest and spectacular caves, and is five minutes away from both the wharf and the airport and free transfers are available for all guests. |
